A former colleague at Department of Social & Health Services shared her mantra “write your story” with me.  I can’t let go of it.  The big idea: we make hundreds of subconscious choices daily in response to our environment and circumstances.  “Write your story” is being intentional about choosing how you want your day to be.  You wake up, the circumstances are there, and you consciously pre-determine what the “story” at the end of the day would look like.  You can’t control the circumstances (often), but you can control your personal storyline behind your attitude, your efforts and your behaviors.  I find this approach to be very empowering, and also personally challenging myself to be my best.

Daily I have the chance to transform my attitude.  I can look in the mirror at myself, my heart and make the subconscious responses conscious choices.  This is my clean slate.

Generally, grey skies and rainy days can be a downer for me.  However, my story about the northwest weather can also be:  recognizing the wonderful nourishment of water for my garden; being grateful for the refreshing breeze and cool temperature for my afternoon run; explore the glorious rainbow (somewhere) which reminds me of childhood days where I fantasize about finding the pot of gold.

“Write your story” for me is that pot of gold.
